Hope and experience

Monday December 29, 2008

We made our first outing since Christmas Eve today.  To Sainsbury’s, of course.

Before leaving I counted the number of days I wanted to stock for:

  1. Today
  2. Tomorrow
  3. New Year’s Eve
  4. New Year’s Day
  5. Hang-over Day

“What are you working out now?” Graham asked.

“Number of days provisions.  I want to see us through to the first real day of 2009.”

“Oh.  Alright, then.”

“Won’t it be a blessing to have everything back to normal?”

“I’m looking forward to getting back to work on the house.”

“What’s going to be first, then?”

“Hall and cloakroom floors, I think.”

“Sounds good to me.  Not until you stop coughing, though.”

“No way.  I’ll start work when I’m ready, and that’ll see the last of the cough off faster than any rotten medicine.”

“I remember it well.”

“Remember what?”

“When the balance of hope and experience worked for me in those practical proportions.”

Gee, John, I don’t know if I ever had hope and experience in balanced proportions, practical or otherwise. One or the other was always just that silly millimeter out of whack. Which keeps things interesting. (smile) Even so, I am hoping for lots of photos of le domicile in 2009. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge …

Ah – gotta agree w/ Dee – photos are always nice! I like to watch men work… ;)

Hope you’re both feeling better today.

Tip a glass for us as I will be sound asleep probably. Oh I forgot, the illegal fire works. They should be less as the County banned them so I think the stands closed up.

Doesn’t matter whether the fireworks are banned or no. There will be ‘works and probably gunfire as well. We always have one or two reports of injuries resulting therefrom.

I love your dialogues. The flavour of the exchange comes through; I can almost hear the voices….

I agree with Sarah, I love to ‘listen’ to you and Graham talk. I like the caring, and the humor.

Ah, yes! Hope, experience…and provisions, all very important ingredients for a good week and satisfying lives. Bless your hearts, John and Graham. May you flourish in the New Year and for many, many to come.

Cough-ending mojo and prosperity comin’ at ya from the far side of Asia,

I remember having the flu when I was trapped in a house in the mountains. Realized I hadn’t cleaned the gutters and it had begun to rain. I bundled up and went out in a driving downpour and cleaned the suckers out. Pine needles and ice chunks galore. At the end of the day I didn’t have the flu any more. I wish Graham (and you) a wonderful and healthy New Year.
