You gotta be kidding

December 28, 2008 · 13 Comments

Sunday December 28, 2008

A little while back I noted the recently listed ‘medifact’ that a winter cold or ‘flu-associated cough is liable to last up to eight weeks.

Well, we’re half-way through that period and to my dismay I find that my cough, which had been slowly disappearing, has decided to pay a return visit.  Morning, noon and night, I seem unable just now to settle to anything before the next cough session comes along and I make a further demand on the UK supply of disposable tissues.

Hey ho.  I’ll live, but it looks like I’m in for another couple of days of less than optimum living.  Thank heavens for rum.

This evening, Graham was coughing away merrily, too, so I told him the eight week story.

“You gotta be kidding,” he spluttered.

If only.

    Hummm – let’s see.

*rub vicks on bottom of feet – put socks on.
*also apply vicks to your neck and wrap a nice warm snuggie around it.
*sip a hot beverage with fresh lemon and a splash of amaretto (or your choice of alcoholic beverage).
*pop in a favorite movie and languish under a warm wrap.
*nap on and off during movie. ;)

Here’s hoping it’s just a final clearing 0ut of the yuckies and that you’re both finally over it in a day or two.

You better be careful and get over that bit of nastiness soon, or I’m coming over can of dry mustard in hand, lots of flannels and it’ll be mustard plasters for both of you. Seriously, though, here’s hoping this is just one more curtain call, and exit!

Oh, I hate when you people have to deal with the mizzerbulls. Major mojo is in force, to speed the It’s-about-damn-time healing process. Sigh.

And hugs. We can’t forget the hugs.

I’m lucky across the pond here to have avoided a cough so far this winter. No cold, flu nor allergy attack beyond a bit of dizziness and sneezing that quickly passed. Doubt I’ll make it through the winter without some illness, but wouldn’t it be nice?

Hope you feel better soon. I had pneumonia for three weeks late August, early September following a week off with the ‘flu. Lengthy course of super heavy duty antibiotics for it. I was told about the 100 day cough and mine lasted all of that..

It certainly took that long for the cough to ease. However there’s still gunk in my lungs morning and night which makes me cough then.

Bisolvon chesty helped a friend. It isn’t cough medicine but breaks up rubbish. It will make the nose run, but helps get rid of the rubbish. Over the counter at a chemist down here.

Stay warm and have lots of fluid and plenty of sleep.

Oh, I am sorry about the cough. I, myself, have been popping cough drops regularly for weeks, but they keep it under control. Hope things get better soon for you both.

With the furnace back on I am again using the nasal spray to offset the allergies. That is what usually causes my coughing.

Above, Vicks on the bottom of the feet?

*Bonnie – rumor has it this year that if you slather the bottom of your feet with vicks and then put clean warm socks on, it will help alleviate the cough, especially during the night.

I’ve heard it works. Haven’t had to try it yet and I hope I don’t. :)

Do try that Vicks-onna-feet trick! I haven’t been able to find Vicks in Korea, and (knocks on wooden head) I hope I don’t have to deal with a cough.

My onions and garlic are simmering in the pan, to go with a bit of ham and a salad for supper. That’s my cold prevention recipe, lots of allia and citrus fruits.

Sending you lots of Health-energy from Corea,
    ~ Sil

I have just crawled out of bed and my cough isn’t too bad as I have an inhaler for asthma and that keeps it under control.Hope yours disappear soon.

A wicked bug went through our house at the end of October, and I still have a wee bit of the cough left.

The bug gave me bronchitis, my husband pneumonia, and one of my three year old twins an ear infection that took 2 different antibiotics to get rid of. We all coughed like crazy! Now the cough is running through my hospital co-workers here in Tennessee.

A trip to the physician might be a good idea so you can nip it in the bud before it gets worse. Take care of yourself, John. Sending positive energy your way!
