Right at the bottom of our energy curves, we decided to go to Swansea today, to size up the Christmas shopping problem. Not to do it, you understand, but to get an accurate idea of the amount of time and effort needed when we get there. Couldn’t have done it today anyway because the fresh poultry and ham joints are a couple of days away from being safe all the way through the holiday.
It was hell. Sheer, dull, drizzly, crowded hell.
“I’m not sure I can do this today,” I said as we emerged from Debenhams.
“Me neither. Let’s have a quick look at Marks & Spencers and then have an early lunch.”
“We already had an early Starbucks break. Give me one good reason why we should endure the crush for lunch.”
“Kardomah.”
“Oh. Alright. If you insist on playing dirty.”
