Greek sunshine

Monday December 1, 2008

I seem to be coming out of the post-move reaction at last, happy to be where I am, and doing what I’m doing.  Ye gods and little fishes, though, I’m tired!  I feel as though I could sleep for a week.  Or a month.

Can’t be done, though.  We have excursions of the routine kind planned for four of the five days this week, starting with a Monday trip to the supermarket in Swansea.  All accomplished, and successful, with a shopping basket that reflects my intent to return to proper cooking once more.  Cottage pie tonight, all from raw components.  And I very nearly remembered the way there and back again with only minimal prompting from Graham!

Two shameless self-indulgences.  First, a tray of fresh blueberries, half of which I have consumed already.  I’m in need of some memory-assist and fresh berry fruit is a great aid to clarity.  But canned fruit would do just as well, and for a fraction of the cost.

The other, even more expensive little gift to myself is a tiny Flip F260B-UK Video Ultra Series Digital Camcorder, on its way from Amazon.  This was occasioned by a two-pronged attack on my normally cautious nature.  First was a tiny review of the little thing in my pensioners’ monthly glossy magazine.  Second was an accidental over-payment on my VISA card, where I sent off last month’s balance-clearing payment twice.  They won’t let you reclaim a credit on the account without paying them a transfer fee.  Grrr.  Anyway, it promises to be a great toy, very much along the lines of my little pen-cam.  It’s on the way, and I think it’ll be a great tool for recording my new environment.  I simply couldn’t get on with the video camcorder, nor with the video setting on my digital camera.  This promises to be simple, straightforward, and technically as good a result as I need.

It’s not all wonderful, though.  The weather is still deeply, horridly cold and I don’t seem to be able to get my joints warm and painfree, no matter how many layers I put on, or how warm I dress.  Could be worse, and I’ll soon be used to it, but it seems that winter has come too soon and too fast for me this year and I’m inclined to stay home in the warm and read my winter books.  Currently deep into My Family and Other Animals, and relishing all that wonderful crinkle-crisp Greek sunshine.
