A good return

Tuesday October 21, 2008

One of those big days today, with the long anticipated visit from Graham’s mother to inspect our new home.  The house passed with flying colours, as did we.  Sighs of relief all round.

It was my first visit to the AP’s flat over in Pontardawe for some years and I was just a little nervous about it.  To my delight she’s made it over into a charming little nest for herself, bright and cheerful, and full of optimism.  Which is not bad going for an 80+ newly widowed old lady.  Deserves a salute, does that, and she got it.

Then, on the way home, to one of the big local Tesco’s for dinner.  I seem to be getting control of my provisioning really rather well, and there’s no need for another trip tomorrow nor, indeed, the day after that if we manage to make four bottles of wine last three evenings.  No.  Strike that thought.  It’s not time yet to pull back on the wine.  I’ll pop out on Thursday for wine.

And now, though I’m a little ashamed to admit it, I’m more than a little tired and intend to close this and go flop in front of the telly for once.

Oh, before I forget to record it, I won another £100 on the premium bonds last month, and received the cheque today.  I’m getting a good return on this investment, very good indeed.

Glad to hear Graham’s mum likes your new digs. Has she mellowed? It sounds as if she’s getting more agreeable as she ages. Her flat sounds lovely. Optimism is a very attractive interior decoration.

With all that gadding about, I’m not surprised you feel like flopping in front of the telly. ;-)

After getting home from my half-day of work, I slipped in a short siesta before a coaching gig with the high school teacher.

Hugs from Gwangmyeong, and skritches for whom it is appropriate (the regal one),

Ah – That’s nice that it went well with Graham’s mother. Glad she approved.

Take that well deserved rest, John.

    Congrats on the premiums!

That all important nod of approval! Well done, gentlemen! Now do put your feet up, uncork the wine, and enjoy! As that old telly commercial said: “You’ve earned it!”

Seconds to what they’ve all said before me. :)

I haven’t had a chance to comment for the last couple of days, so I wanted to say you’ve certainly found a charming new home and the landscape is lovely. It seems to invite one to explore. I hope you are able to get out into it soon. But only after you’ve rested up for the last couple of weeks. Stress can really tire you out, even if you aren’t doing anything physical on top of it.
Please give yourself plenty of ramp up time.

These last few entries that you have made since your move have a special feel to them. Happiness, relief its done? I am enjoying reading them.

Make four bottles last three evenings?

    Good grief.

That would never work in our house – not at weekends anyway.

Ah, Andrew, like minds… we’ve just been discussing it and decided that the two bottle a night is to last a while yet, ‘at least until we’ve cleared all the cardboard boxes’, Graham said. Which is fine. He clears the boxes so, in effect, he sets the pace.
