Moving day

First thing to say is that we are now safely and securely in our new home.

The path from there to here was long and tiring but much as we expected until we got to the agent for the sellers, having Completed moments before. They didn’t have the keys, and could not contact the sellers.

Panic! We have a massive furniture van outside our new home, with two guys raring to go. We have an angry cat in the car, needing to go. And no keys!

It got done, of course, but stress levels rose to maximum, far more than at any other point on the game. And, three hours later we were waving the guys away and chatting happily to one of our new neighbours.

Impressions and observations:

  1. Our new little valley, heavily wooded and deep, is a small heaven on earth.
  2. The neighbours are so kind and friendly!
  3. Our seller was a stranger to Ajax.
  4. The house is actually larger than the last one, and the kitchen noticeably so.
  5. The view from my new study window is to die for, even if I do have to stand on tippety toe peering over a stack of cardboard boxes to see it at the moment.
  6. At dawn the mist rolls down from the Brecon Beacons to hang in the valley a while until it carries on down the river and out to the estuary.
  7. I need a good local walking map.
  8. It’s very strange shopping in Welsh again.
  9. It’s very strange watching Welsh TV again.
  10. It’s absolutely astonishing how instantly you fall to sleep on the first night of being in your own bed in a new house.
  11. It’s not at all astonishing how you wake in your new house on your first morning just before dawn. Rather like waking on Christmas Day as a child, very early, and filled with rose-bud-red cheeky excitement to see what Father Christmas has brought.
  12. It’s not at all surprising that the first journal entry in a new house should be a little confused over what day it is.
