Never again

Wednesday October 8, 2008

The house is now at the stage of naked light bulbs and empty shelves, with great stacks of cardboard boxes laying about the place while they’re filled with cupboard and dresser things.

We have disposed of any number of car loads of stuff over the past year yet still the ‘to be dumped’ piles are mounting.  Tomorrow will be another dump run day.  At the dump the guys go through the more interesting bits and retrieve what can be recycled;  that’s gratifying–I hate to think of good usable things going into land-fill.  I’ve been Freecycling all the way through of course but now we’re at the point where there simply isn’t time for doing things the fancy way.

We’ll be finished on Monday, so I’m told.  If the weather allows we’ll take Tuesday off for a lunch-time trip to Burnham, followed by a good, sustaining dinner.

Wednesday at 08:30 the big truck will pull up and, ready or not, our stuff will be stacked carefully for the trip to Wales on Thursday.  Sally is hopeful for a mid-day completion, so the delivery will be done and dusted by tea time.

We’ve done it all before and that certainly makes it easier.  Even so, we’re both of us given to muttering ‘never again’ at frequent intervals through the day.
