Cooking with gas

By noon today we were sat in the coffee shop in Taunton, congratulating ourselves on a dizzying but successful conclusion to our house deal:

  • Our new buyers for this house have shown the agents conclusive evidence of their good faith and their ability to proceed to a speedy exchange and completion.  They even went so far, so it seems, as to provide a copy of their mortgage company’s ‘agreement in principle’.  Bearing in mind that, in England and Wales, the deal is not legally binding until contracts have been exchanged, we’re as close as we can be to a done deal.
  • The sellers for the house we really, really wanted in Wales–and which I have been busily persuading myself since things collapsed in a heap that I didn’t want anyway–showed the truth of their metal and had, so it seems, instructed the agent to ‘make it easier’ for us to find a new buyer in the event of us phoning by dropping their asking price.  The agent was delighted to learn of our success today, and promised to pass a rather lower request through.  The buyers, quick as quick, came back with an improved offer, which we accepted.

The whole deal, selling and buying, is back on the air once more, and we are cooking with gas!

Is it any surprise that I’m feeling just a little tired this evening!  Graham, bless him, is cooking up a rather wonderful bean and tomato casserole and I propose to flop in front of the TV.  Last night was Dante’s Cove night;  decorative, but I still don’t much go for it.  Tonight, though, is Farscape, and tomorrow is Stargate-SG1.  Technology is wonderful.
