When we got home yesterday, and after I’d journalled our good news, I was taken with an incredible weariness. Not surprising, really.
And then, this morning, my time was commandeered to take Graham over to St Audries to finish the hand-over. Time cheerfully given. There will be a few consultative phone calls for a while, dwindling away as the weeks pass, but the separation is now complete.
We’ve removed most of our stuff from the caravan, and will complete that task some time in the next couple of weeks. They assured Graham that there’s no rush and that we can hang on to the caravan ‘just in case’.
By the time I woke this evening, stuck the chicken in the oven, and came up to check things out, the comments had exploded! The adventure continues, and it’s made easier to handle by all the good, friendly support and interest.
The last three houses, including this one, have not been to our mutual liking and we’ve been unable in consequence to settle. This time we’re doing our best a) to select a good ‘un and, b) to make a proper go of it when we get there. Where-ever ‘there’ is.
So tomorrow, at the start of business, I shall hit the phone. First call is to the agent for the almost-failed house, making a formal withdrawal but suggesting that we could keep the deal together if the sellers could see their way to reducing the price by the same amount as we’ve had to. They’re not living in the house and want to sell it because they’ve built a new one on the shell of an inherited property nearby. That means they’re not subject to any real pressure to sell, but in this market, if they don’t reduce their already high price now, they’re likely to have to if they’re serious about selling at all. If they’re not serious, we’re better off without them.
Meantime we’ve found another really rather delish house a little further out into the West, just over the hill from where dear boozy old Dylan wrote in the boathouse. Lovely location. There are two or three other possibles, and we’ll set up a day trip to view them shortly.
Have to say, the fun has come back into it, and though I’m tired, I’m feeling good about it all.
